World AIDS Day
December 1st 2007 is the 19th World AIDS Day. This year’s theme is ‘prevention is everybody’s business’. A strategy for promoting awareness of HIV and AIDS is to encourage people to wear red during AIDS Awareness Week 24 Nov - 1 Dec.
Youth Empowerment Against HIV/AIDS (YEAH) is based in Melbourne and works to develop and distribute resources that encourage young people to be aware of how to prevent HIV transmission but also the impact of HIV on a global level. They’re trying to get schools Australia-wide on board to ‘Wear shades for AIDS’. They also distribute the DVD ‘A Closer Walk’, a documentary exploring the relationship between health, dignity and human rights- virtues that are being denied to many people living with HIV/AIDS around the world. Find out more about YEAH.
