Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia (SH&FPA) Certificate in Sexual & Reproductive Health - (for Medical Practitioners)
The SH&FPA Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health is recommended for medical practitioners who wish to increase their knowledge and clinical skills in sexual and reproductive health. Course information.

CONNECTIONS - Sexual & reproductive health: asking, assessing, assisting young people - a training resource for General Practice
Family Planning Queensland have developed a DVD learning resource that features scenarios exploring specific communication and consultation skills involved in working with young people with sexual h ealth issues whoa ttend general practice. The resource if for GPs, overseas training doctors (IMGs), GP registrars and practice nurses.
As part of the program FPQ will be facilitating several workshops in 2012.

Contraception Overview - suitable for GPs, DRANZCOG candidates and nurse practitioners
This module has been specifically designed for doctors undertaking training for the DRANZCOG but is also suitable for other doctors and nurse practitioners.
All methods of contraception will be covered in a full day theory workshop where the emphasis will be on practical aspects and case based discussions. Prior to the workshop-all participants will be expected to have completed pre reading.
Participants can then arrange 3 half day practical sessions working with experienced staff at an FPQ clinic

Tailored Clinical Attachment
FPQ offers a flexible clinical attachment to medical practitioners & nurses, providing an opportunity for one-on-one supervision and training in the clinical setting that can be tailored to the individual clinician's needs. The clinical attachment may be arranged at any of the FPQ clinics across the state. For further information.
Contraceptive Update Seminars
The Contraceptive Update is a one to three-hour seminar that provides an update on current information and recommendations about contraception. Course information.
This training can be delivered in your workplace. Dates and costs individually negotiated.
GP Cervical Screening Updates
Queensland Health has funded FPQ to provide Cervical Screening Update Workshops to provide additional support in cervical screening skills to General Practitioners (GPs) across Queensland, including International Medical Graduates (IMGs) working in General Practice and GP Registrars.
These workshops are geared to provide varying degrees of theory, clinical skills review (practical), clinical skills tutorial, model/pseudo client demonstrations, clinical attachment and include:
- Principles of population health/screening
- Health promotion/disease prevention<
- Knowledge of aetiology of cervical cancer
- Awareness of National Policy on Screening/NHMRC Guidelines for treatment of screen-detected abnormalities
- Interaction and communication skills
- Strategies to assist in service provision to women with specific needs (disability, CALD backgrounds, Indigenous women
- Education in basic theory and clinical experience in performing a Pap smear
- Interpretation of cytology results
- Follow-up and referral practices
- Quality assurance activities eg recall/reminder systems
All workshops attract RACGP QI &CPD points.

Practice based Cervical Screening 1 hour upskilling workshop
FPQ is offering a free practice based 1 hour upskilling workshop in Cervical Screening (workshop information)
Do you have the hang of HPV?
Have you nailed the New Guidelines?
Are you interested in tips and tricks for Pap smear taking?
The workshop can be tailored to your particular practice' needs or interests, and answer any or all of your questions in this area. Current evidence on any aspect can be reviewed.

Implanon NXT Insertion Training
MSD (Merck, Sharp & Dohme) provides Implanon training for doctors. The training is presented by FPQ with a view to familiarising doctors with Implanon NXT and correct insertion methods.
The new insertion device Implanon NXT is now available and the previous device has been withdrawn. All doctors, including former Implanon inserters, will be required to undergo training to insert Implanon NXT. For more information on training options, dates and venues go to http://www.msdonline.com.au/nxt. Doctors will need to login as the site is password protected to ensure
access only by health professionals. If you do not have an access code
(as provided in an earlier mailing) then you can log in under the box
labeled 'new users without access code' and fill out your details. An
email will be sent to you within 48 hrs to set up a password and you
can then access the site.
