I Can - Promoting Self Protection Posters

Self protection education is about teaching children, parents/carers, staff and services about preventing child sexual abuse. It is about giving children the information and skills they need to stay safe from sexual abuse without making them scared of their world. Self protection education includes learning about: self esteem, assertiveness, communicating, body awareness, understanding feelings, understanding relationships and types of touch, and knowing how to get help.

The I Can - Promoting Self Protection Posters includes six posters and the facilitator guide. The resource is designed for parents/carers, early childhood workers, educators and early childhood services to use with children aged 2-5 years.

The I Can Posters are designed to communicate positive messages about sexuality and self protection. The posters are designed to promote self protection skills in a positive and accessible way.

The I Can - Promoting Self Protection Posters can be used as a group or individual activity with a facilitator. The posters are best displayed at the eye level of the children participating.

The facilitator guide provides an overview of the resource, background information on child sexual abuse and explains each poster including the text, facilitator strategies, extension activities and additional resource ideas.
