Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in clinical practice
This resource aims to improve the provision of health services to members of the community affected by FGM by promoting awareness and understanding of clients' cultural needs and differences.
It has been developed to assist health professionals provide antenatal and postnatal care to women affected by Female Genital Mutilation(FGM). It contains interviews with patients and specialist clinicians on the topics of:
- de-infibulation procedures and postnatal healing
- cultural considerations and communication strategies
- patient experiences and expectations
The FGM Project
The Multicultural Women's Health Education project on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) focuses on th prevention of FGM. Of equal importance, the group works to provide affected women increased access to information and services to improve their sexual and reproductive health.
The FGM project aims to mobilise affected communities, health professionals, religious leaders, traditional leaders, women and men, through education and information, to change their mindset and involve them in preventing FGM.
Funding assistance by Queensland Health enabled a limited number of copies to be produced for distribution to Queensland antenatal services. Please contact FPQ for more information.
