| Parents and carers are the
primary sexuality educators of their children.
Schools and parents/carers can work together
to provide sexuality education to support healthy
development in children.
Sexuality education is an important curriculum
responsibility in every school. Providing opportunities
for students to develop knowledge, skills and
healthy attitudes through comprehensive programs
in every year level ensures the healthy sexual
development of students.
Sexuality education involves learning about
growth and development, relationships, staying
safe and making healthy choices.
Sexuality education aims to:
- provide a sound foundation for the development of healthy
sexual identity.
- provide age appropriate information.
- provide information in a way that encourages acceptance
of self and others
- encourage young people to choose to be sexually healthy.
- enhance relationships
When children and young people participate
in comprehensive sexuality education programs,
it increases the likelihood that they will
make informed and responsible sexual decisions
later in life.
Parents and carers also have an important
role to play in supporting sexuality education
in schools by letting their schools know they
support sexuality education programs.
FPQ has a wide range of services and resources
to help parents, carers and schools provide
sexuality education. This includes:
