The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) was established in 1976
to represent the interests of the many people from culturally and linguistically
diverse backgrounds (CALD) who are part of the broad social community of
Queensland, and to promote multiculturalism.
It is a non-profit, member-based Statewide peak body. ECCQ contributes
to national policy and debate on all matters concerning ethnic communities
and multiculturalism through its affiliation with the Canberra-based Federation
of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia (FECCA).

Australia amalgamated to form a single national agency to provide leadership
in cancer control and improve outcomes for Australians affected by cancer.

This multilingual website on HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C is for people in Australia.
It provides HIV/Hepatitis C information in English, Amharic, Arabic, Bosnian,

Serbian, Spanish, Greek, Macedonian, Somali, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, and

The Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health (CEH) is a unique agency that
provides specialist information, training and support on cultural diversity
and wellbeing. They offer a wide range of services that assist Australian
organisations to meet the needs of refugee and migrant clients including

communities in the areas of sexually transmissible infections and blood-borne
viruses.

The VTPU is a statewide unit which supports area mental health and psychiatric
disability support services in working with culturally and linguistically

The Immigrant Women’s Support Services (IWSS) is a community based organisation
that supports and works with women and children from non-English speaking backgrounds
who have suffered from domestic violence, rape and/or sexual assault. IWSS
is a crisis and support service which provides culturally appropriate support,
information, short-term counselling and referral. IWSS works from within a
feminist framework which values cultural diversity and recognises the disadvantages
faced by women and children of non-English speaking backgrounds which arise
from the structural inequalities existing in society.
QPASST – The Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors

The Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASST)
provides people from refugee communities with culturally sensitive services
to promote their health and wellbeing. The services focus on the physical,
psychological and social needs that are associated with torture and trauma.
The services are free and confidential and have offices in Yeronga and Toowoomba.

The Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast Inc. (formerly the Ethnic
Communities Council Gold Coast) was established in 1983 by a group of volunteers
and representatives from ethnic communities, clubs and associations in response
to the growing number of migrants, new arrivals and refugees, especially
those from non-English speaking backgrounds. It was identified that their
needs were not adequately being met by the mainstream services who were primarily
based in Brisbane. The MCCGC was incorporated in 1986 with a charter to ensure
that people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds have equal
access to all appropriate services for their health and wellbeing.

organisation that provides a number of services to young women and the wider
community. Services include counseling and support to young women who have

The Migrant Centre is a non profit, independent body, run by volunteers to
showcase the benefits of multiculturalism and the contribution of all migrant
communities. The migrant centre provides individual assistance with the training
as needed, and runs workshops on writing resumes, interview techniques etc,
thus ensuring the best outcomes are obtained from their newly acquired skills.

TIS National is an interpreting service, provided by the Department of Immigration
and Citizenship, for people who do not speak English, and for the English
speakers who need to communicate with them. TIS National has access to over
1900 contracted interpreters across Australia, speaking more than 170 languages
and dialects. TIS National is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week
for any person or organisation in Australia requiring interpreting services.
It provides immediate telephone interpreting services, as well as pre-booked
telephone and on-site interpreting.

The National Cross Cultural Dementia Network (NCCDN) provides advice to Alzheimer’s
Australia on dementia information provision, resource development and service
delivery for culturally and linguistically diverse communities. NCCDN is
a key group which supports Alzheimer’s Australia and partner organisations
to meet this commitment. The Network provides advocacy and advice to Alzheimer’s
Australia and government and non government organisations across a broad
range of issues relating to people from culturally and linguistically diverse
backgrounds (CALD) who live with dementia.
