Parents & Carers
Family Education
FPQ acknowledges parents/carers as the primary sexuality educators of their children.
FPQ’s family sexuality education programs are designed to build communication between parents/carers and their children. FPQ offers two sessions within the family education program, which are both 1.5 hours in length, and are attended by parents/carers and their children.
FPQ’s family education programs are designed to assist in:
- developing open and healthy communication about sexuality between
- parents/carers and children
- providing age-appropriate sexuality education
- building children’s self-esteem
- providing information and support during puberty.
FPQ offers two sessions within the family education program:
- The Reproduction session covers topics such as reproductive body parts and functions, conception, pregnancy and birth.
- The Preparing for puberty session covers the various physical, social and emotional changes that occur during puberty.
Schools may offer family education programs to support parents/carers to talk about sexuality education with their children. FPQ educators may also offer family education programs in their local community.
Cost:
$180 per 1.5 hour session with a maximum of 30 families (for schools or community organisations).
$12 per family when hosted independently by FPQ.

Parent/carer education: Where do I start?
This 1.5 hour session for parents/carers explores:
- how children learn about sexuality
- why sexuality education is important
- sexual development in childhood
- ways to respond to curiosity about sexuality
- how to answer children’s questions about sexuality with comfort
- ways to support the development of healthy sexuality
The session can be tailored to the stage of development of participant’s children; for example, it may focus on early childhood, or preparing for puberty.
Where do I start? Sessions can be conducted for parents/carers in kindergartens, preschools, childcare centres, community centres or schools. As these sessions are designed for parents/carers to discuss communicating about sexuality, share ideas and discuss a range of strategies to talk about sexuality with children, it is not designed for children to be present at these sessions.
Cost:
$180 per 1.5 hour session with a maximum of 30 participants.
