Professional training for teachers and other staff who work in the disability sector

Option 1: Nationally recognised training – disability and sexuality
FPQ provides a range of courses aimed to meet the needs of professionals who work in the education sector; residential and respite services; program and case management and other areas of the disability sector.

Option 2: Customised training – disability and sexuality
FPQ provides training to schools and organisations to assist and complement staff in building confidence to support the healthy sexuality of students or clients. Content can include:
- What is sexuality?
- Values and attitudes in relation to sexuality and disability
- Social learning and disability
- Practical strategies for responding to sexual behaviours positively
- Teaching specific topics (i.e. puberty)
- Case study examples to facilitate learning
- Policy and procedure development
Time frames for training can range from 2hrs to 2days depending on content. Contact your nearest FPQ education office to discuss organising a training session for your school or organisation.

Option 3: Consultancy
FPQ provides a professional consultation service to schools and organisations. FPQ is able to attend an organised meeting or case conference to facilitate discussion about strategies to support specific sexual behaviours in a positive way. The outcome of the consultation is that parents, carers and professionals are resourced to respond to the sexuality and relationships education (SRE) needs of the child, young person or adult they are supporting. Usually consultations run for 1.5-2 hours. It is important to talk with the young person or adult with a disability about the meeting first. Contact your nearest FPQ education office to discuss a professional consultation for your school or organisation.
