Intrauterine insertion information
An intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) is a small device which is fitted inside the uterus, where it can remain for lengthy periods to prevent pregnancy. There are two types of IUDs available in Australia: Copper IUDs and Mirena which is a hormone releasing IUD.

Prior to the insertion appointment you will be usually required to attend for an assessment appointment.

IUDs are also inserted by gynaecologists, specialised reproductive health clinics and by some general practitioners (GPs)
