Sessional Medical Officer -Townsville FPQ clinic
Part time position including regular Saturday mornings
Family Planning Queensland (FPQ) is a unique Queensland organisation offering services in the area of sexual and reproductive health. FPQ provides clinical services, education, training, information and advice related to sexual and reproductive health.
FPQ is seeking a doctor with an interest in young people and sexual and reproductive health to work up to 12 hours/week in our Townsville clinic. This includes a minimum of regular Saturday mornings 8.30-12.30 (at least 3 of 4 Saturdays) in our new “youth only” clinic. A salary loading applies to Saturday hours.

Position Objective
To provide specialised medical care, education and training in the area of reproductive and sexual health in accordance with clinical guidelines and policies of FPQ.
Responsible to:
- Clinic Coordinator (operational issues)
- Senior Medical Officer (professional issues)
Collaborates with
- All members of the clinic team
Duties and Responsibilities
Service Delivery
- Provide sexual and reproductive health clinical services, in accordance with FPQ Clinical Practice Guidelines
- Collaborate with FPQ nurses to ensure effective and timely clinical service provision
- Assist with the development and review of FPQ clinical protocols and standards as required
- Participate in FPQ research projects as appropriate
- Participate in the delivery of theoretical and practical training provided for health professionals by Family Planning Queensland as required
- Participate in professional development and quality assurance activities
Other Conditions
- Evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B. Minimum requirement to commence employment will be the first vaccination having been undertaken and agreement to complete the vaccination course and provide evidence of immunity within 9 months.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Utilise the SHIP programme to produce quality data and efficient client management systems.
Remuneration
- FPQ Medical Officers - Level 2 – 3 (see structure below)
- 68.71-73.51 p/h permanent pt; 85.89-91.90 p/h casual
- Saturday loading- additional 50% to hourly rate
- Generous FBT exempt salary packaging available

FPQ DOCTORS STRUCTURE
These descriptions describe responsibilities of medical practitioners working at various levels at FPQ. Further description of roles and responsibilities are contained within relevant Position Descriptions.
Level One
- Limited experience in the field of reproductive and sexual health. Holds or working towards a SHFPA certificate
- The medical officer can manage clinical consultations independently within a clinical setting but requires a level of support from other higher-level medical officers.
- The medical officer will be required to advise and support FPQ nurses in their clinical practice. In addition they will be required to participate in organisational processes, including quality activities, accreditation processes, clinical audits, staff development, and planning processes.
Level Two
- Experience in the field of reproductive and sexual health and holds a SH FPA certificate (or equivalent) and has experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- The medical officer can manage clinical consultations independently within a clinical setting.
- The medical officer will be required to advise and support FPQ nurses in their clinical practice. In addition they will be required to participate in organisational processes, including quality activities, accreditation processes, clinical audits, staff development, and planning processes.
Level Three
- Significant experience in the field of reproductive and sexual health holds a FPA Certificate (or equivalent) and has experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- The medical officer can manage complex clinical consultations independently within a clinical setting as well as supervise medical and other trainees.
- The medical officer will be required to advise and support FPQ nurses in their clinical practice. In addition they may be responsible for assisting in the implementation of organisational processes, including quality activities, accreditation processes, clinical audits, staff development, and service planning.
- The medical officer will be required to have a significant involvement in education and training, professional education internally and external to FPQ and may be required to participate in or manage research and/or clinical projects.
