Child and Family Sexual Assault Counselor - Cairns

Family Planning Queensland (FPQ) is a is a leading providor of sexual and repoductive health services in Cairns and surrounding regions. Opportunities exist to join our Child and Family Sexual Assault Counseling Program as part of the the Cairns Sexual Assault Counseling Service.

The position provides counseling to children aged 18 years and under, and their non offending family members who have been affected by sexual assault.

Applicant must have relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology of the Behavioural Sciences and experience in delivering counseling to children and families will be highly regarded.

Essential qualifications, skills and knowledge

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Pschology or behavioural sciences

  2. Demonstrated understanding of, and skills in working therapeutically with children and families who have been affected by sexual assault

  3. Demonstrated understanding of cross-cultural issues in providing services to children, families and communities who have experienced sexual assault

  4. Proven ability to understand appropriate legislation, best practice guidelines and knowledge of interagency protocols in relation to child sexual assault and child protection

  5. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  6. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the provision of education, training and health promotion activities in relation to child sexual assault

  7. Experience in using office computer programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, email and statistical software

  8. Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate and timely written case notes

  9. Reliable transport and a current Driver's Licence

  10. A criminal history check is a requirement prior to appointmnet to this position. The position requires a positive notice - 'Working with Children Check' administeredby the Qld Commission for Children and Toung People and Child Guardian

  11. Evidence of immunity to Hepititis B. Minimum requirement to commence employment will be the first vaccination having been undertaken and agreement to complete the vaccination course and provide evidence of immunity within 9 months

Remuneration.

Employment is a Fixed Term Contract until June 30, 2012 (Hours to be negotiated).

$58,000 - $71,000 pro rata, dependent on experience (attractive salary packaging also available).
