Sexual health nurse training position - Brisbane
Family Planning Queensland (FPQ) is seeking expressions of interest from registered nurses interested in undertaking the following program:
- Sexual Health Nurse clinical training position: part time training (20- 24 hrs week) position for 12 months. Upon successful completion there is the possible option of ongoing part time work subject to funding. During the training program the successful applicant will be supported to undertake the FPQ Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health and other training requirements to fulfil the position requirements of an Advanced Practice Nurse in the area of sexual and reproductive health

Position Objectives
- To provide specialised nursing care and education and training in the area of reproductive and sexual health in accordance with advanced practice nursing standards and the philosophy of FPQ.
- To maintain efficient functioning of clinical sessions.

Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
- Develop FPQ’s profile, position and activities in health professional workforce development in Queensland
Service Delivery
- Provide a range of clinical services to clients attending FPQ clinics utilising a specialist body of knowledge and clinical expertise. Services include Pap smears, STI screening, pelvic examination, breast checks and teaching BSE.
- Provide information/education in relation to STIs/HIV, safer sexual practices and other sexual and reproductive health issues.
- Provide information/education on all methods of contraception.
- Administer and supply drugs in accordance with the FPQ Guidelines for Clinical Practice and the FPQ Health Management Protocols.
- Fitting, checking and instruction on the care and use of the diaphragm.
- Provide pregnancy testing and counselling including the facilitation of choices, pre-conceptual and fertility information.
- Provide information/education on general health issues such as, smoking, alcohol, drug abuse, immunisation, injecting drug use, diet and exercise.
- Manage the follow up and referral of clients, as appropriate, to medical officers within FPQ and to external health care providers.
- Prepare clients, equipment and clinical services assistance to the medical staff during IUD and other procedures.
- Participate in professional development and quality assurance activities.
- Provide clinical training and supervision to health professionals undertaking clinical attachments in FPQ clinics.
Physical Environment/Resources
- Maintain a safe working environment within the clinic areas for staff and clients in conjunction with Workplace, Health and Safety guidelines
- Maintain infection control standards within the clinic environment.
- Provide clinical support to the administration staff to ensure the efficient management of clinic services.
Other Conditions
- Evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B. Minimum requirement to commence employment will be the first vaccination having been undertaken and agreement to complete the vaccination course and provide evidence of immunity within 9 months.
- Nurses employed in a clinical role at FPQ are required to undergo the 'Working with Children Check' administered by the Qld Commission for Children and Young People.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Utilise the SHIP programme to produce quality data and efficient client management systems.

Selection Criteria
- Registration with the Queensland Nursing Council and current annual license certificate.
- Interest in developing skills in sexual and reproductive health nursing and demonstrated awareness of current sexual health issues
- Willingness to complete the FPQ Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health and other training requirements within a designated timeframe. Prior completion of one or more modules of the FPQ Certificate will be viewed favourably.
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of multi-disciplinary team.
- Willingness to participate in quality improvement and research activities.
