FPQ Toowoomba Clinic is seeking a registered nurse to provide clinical expertise and leadership in clinical services. This is an exciting opportunity to work in sexual and reproductive health, in both a clinical and managerial role.

Position Objectives:

To be responsible for efficient functioning of high quality clinical services within an allocated budget, in accordance with FPQ strategic direction and policies.

To work within the structure of a multi-disciplinary health care team through collaboration with Senior Medical Officer and Regional Education Coordinator to provide ongoing review, planning and implementation of services that are responsive to local community needs.

To provide leadership in the provision of nursing services to ensure best practice in clinical service delivery.

To provide specialised nursing care in the area of reproductive and sexual health in accordance with the philosophy and nursing standards at Family Planning Queensland (FPQ).

Duties and Responsibilities:
Human Resource/Staffing
- Provide leadership and support to clinic staff in areas of professional service to clinic clients
- Performance management of nursing staff
- Coordinate the selection, recruitment and orientation of clinic staff
- Coordinate the staffing requirements for clinical services and authorise clinic staff time sheets and leave applications
- Responsible for the dissemination of information regarding FPQ’s (Clinic specific) policies and procedures to all clinic staff.
Service Delivery
- Coordinate and monitor clinic activities to ensure efficient clinic service delivery within an allocated budget.
- Provide a range of clinical services to clients utilising a specialist body of knowledge and clinical expertise within the scope of advanced nursing practice for nurses within FPQ clinics *see outline of duties and responsibilities.
- Responsible for the functioning of the Pap smear recall and notification program.
- Responsible for monitoring clinical incidents including responding to, resolving, and referring as appropriate client complaints and completion of monthly risk management register.
- Coordinate professional development and quality assurance activities, including the monitoring of IT skill development needs.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of FPQ policies, procedures, and clinical protocols at a statewide and local level.
- Provide education and clinical training to health professionals as required.
- Participate in FPQ research projects as required.
Physical Environment / Resources
- Maintain a safe working environment for staff and clients of the clinic environment in accordance with relevant Workplace, Health and Safety guidelines, and where appropriate in collaboration with the Centre Manager.
- Responsible for the maintenance of infection control standards within the clinic environment.
- Responsible for the management of the medical supplies and equipment within FPQ guidelines.
- Coordinate the maintenance, repair and cleaning of clinic equipment.
- Maintain emergency drug supply and equipment.
Information Technology
- Monitor the utilisation of SHIP programme and other electronic information systems to produce quality data and efficient client management systems, in collaboration with Help Desk Coordinator and administration staff.
- Produce written reports including analysis of clinic activity.
Financial
- Has authority to authorise expenditure for clinic requirements within FPQ policy guidelines for expenditure.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide a range of clinical services to clients attending FPQ clinics utilising a specialist body of knowledge and clinical expertise. Services include:
- Pap smears, STI screenings, pelvic examinations, breast checks and teaching BSE.
- Provide information/education in relation to STI ’s/HIV and safer sexual practices.
- Provide information/education on all methods of contraception.
- Administer and supply drugs in accordance with the FPQ Guidelines for Clinical Practice and the FPQ Health Management Protocols.
- Fitting, checking and instruction on the care and use of the diaphragm.
- Provide pregnancy testing and counselling including the facilitation of choices, pre-conceptual and fertility information.
- Provide information/education on general health issues such as, smoking, alcohol, drug abuse, immunisation, injecting drug use, diet and exercise.
- Manage the follow up and referral of clients, as appropriate, to medical officers within FPQ and to external health care providers.
- Prepare clients, equipment and clinical services assistance to the medical staff during IUD and other procedures.
Other conditions
- Evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B. Minimum requirement to commence employment will be the first vaccination having been undertaken and agreement to complete the vaccination course and provide evidence of immunity within 9 months.
- Nurses employed in a clinical role at FPQ are required to undergo the 'Working with Children Check' administered by the Queensland Commission for Children and Young People.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Current registration with the Queensland Nursing Council as a registered nurse.
- Completion of a Family Planning or Sexual Health certificate course, or equivalent, or willingness to obtain within designated time frame.
- A clear understanding of current issues in the area of sexual and reproductive health.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement and initiative to manage a range of responsibilities within a clinical environment.
- Ability and willingness to identify and implement service improvement strategies including use of effective systems.
- Demonstrated competency in using word processing and email, and the ability to utilise other software as required.

Desirable
- Clinical experience and expertise in sexual and reproductive health care.
